Cookie Policy
Last updated: 1 March 2026
1. What cookies are
Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. They help sites remember preferences and understand how pages are used.
2. How we use cookies
Birchhub Analytics uses a minimal set: essential cookies required for cookie consent memory, and optional analytics cookies to measure readership of our field notes. Rejecting analytics cookies does not affect site functionality.
3. Cookie table
| Name | Purpose | Duration | Provider |
|---|---|---|---|
| birchhub-analytics-consent | Stores your cookie consent choice (accept or reject) | 1 year | Birchhub Analytics |
| _ga | Distinguishes visitors for aggregated analytics (only if accepted) | 2 years | Google Analytics |
| _ga_* | Maintains session state for analytics (only if accepted) | 2 years | Google Analytics |
4. Essential vs analytics
Essential: The consent cookie is necessary to remember your banner choice and avoid showing the banner on every visit.
Analytics: Optional cookies help us see which field notes and commission pages are read most. They are loaded only after you click Accept.
5. Managing cookies
You can Accept or Reject analytics cookies via the banner on first visit. To change your choice later, clear site data in your browser or delete the birchhub-analytics-consent key in localStorage — the banner will reappear.
Most browsers let you block or delete cookies in settings. Consult your browser help documentation for instructions.
6. Third-party cookies
Google Analytics may set cookies on our behalf when enabled. Their privacy policy governs those cookies. We do not use advertising or social tracking pixels.
7. Impact of disabling
Blocking essential consent storage means the cookie banner appears each visit. Blocking analytics simply stops usage measurement; all pages remain fully accessible.
